What began in 1498 with a handful of choristers at the imperial court has blossomed into a vibrant community of over 330 boys and girls aged six to 18. Today, divided into age-appropriate ensembles, they fill the Augarten campus with song. Alongside the active touring choirboys—who carry forward the original 10-to-14 age tradition—the campus boasts a world-class girls' choir, a primary school children's choir, and a mixed youth ensemble for our senior high school students.
Preserving Cultural Heritage, Shaping the Future
Every child at Campus Augarten benefits from a wealth of experience passed down through generations—the foundation of our unique training. By combining this rich heritage with modern, child-centered pedagogy, we help young singers develop voices of exceptional power and authenticity, both musically and personally. Our ultimate goal extends far beyond musical excellence; we focus on the holistic development of well-rounded individuals who embrace music as a healthy, lifelong means of self-expression.
Global Ambassadors
Since 1926, international touring has been a trademark of the Vienna Boys Choir. For the students, these journeys are far more than concert tours; they are immersive cultural exchanges that build self-confidence, expand horizons, and give our young singers a global perspective. Our choristers come from all over the world, finding a welcoming home in Austria while sharing their music on the world stage.
Open-mindedness, inclusivity, and a genuine curiosity about other cultures are central to campus life. Our boarding school is a truly international community: since 2012, students from 39 different countries have lived and studied together here, with around 20 nationalities represented today. By living and studying together, our students learn to respect and understand each other's culture and customs.
Masterpieces Old and New
The repertoire of the Vienna Boys Choir spans centuries, genres, and continents, encompassing both sacred and secular music. Alongside classical masterpieces, the choir regularly performs contemporary works, stage works, film scores, jazz, world, and pop music. This broad artistic exposure trains our choristers' musical sensibilities and enables them to appreciate different approaches and styles. For their international tours, our choirs prepare pieces from the host countries, sung in their respective languages.
