Vienna Boys Choir Middle School (Realgymnasium)

The Vienna Boys Choir Middle School combines academic excellence and musical training within a close-knit, supportive environment, helping students grow academically, artistically, and personally.

Academic Excellence and Musical Artistry

The school provides a specialised performing arts education for boys and girls with a musical focus and an emphasis on voice. Designed for active members of the Vienna Boys Choir and the Vienna Girls Choir, it combines a rigorous academic curriculum with the development of artistic talent. Teaching follows the standard Austrian secondary school curriculum, with a strong foundation in core subjects alongside history, geography, and a first foreign language. At the same time, music education, choir rehearsals, music theory, and individual voice lessons are central to the weekly timetable.

To accommodate the choirs' international concert and touring schedules, the school operates a unique three-term system. Academics are condensed into two intensive terms, leaving the third term dedicated entirely to tours, rehearsals, and musical projects. Small class sizes and additional small-group sessions ensure individual attention. Teachers and choirmasters work in close partnership to perfectly balance academic study with musical development.

Community, Care, and Campus Life

The Middle School offers a close-knit school environment: the "Vienna Boys Choir family" provides a stable social network where students of all ages learn from one another. Clear routines, shared breaks, sports, and choral experiences foster responsibility and social skills.

Outside the classroom, students receive dedicated support: boarding staff with diverse professional backgrounds look after them during daily boarding life, sports, swimming, creative activities, and study periods. Modern digital tools, laptop classes, and interactive boards ensure an engaging approach to learning. The historic Augartenpalais provides an inspiring backdrop to it all.

Our Middle School is more than just a school—it is a vibrant environment where musical talent, academic achievement, creativity, and community come together, preparing children academically, artistically, and personally for their future.

Travelling the world together leaves a lasting impression. On our international tours, young people discover new cultures, rise to every challenge, and excel together as a team. These unforgettable experiences far from home build independence, self-confidence, and a globally minded outlook.

Discovering Talents: Space for Personal Interests

Whether mastering a second instrument, training on the sports pitch, or joining a drama workshop, students have the space to pursue targeted personal goals. Our campus facilities allow every child to explore their individual strengths, providing a rewarding, focused outlet that nurtures valuable talents outside the core curriculum.

A Balanced Routine: Time to Unwind

A structured daily routine is only successful if children have genuine downtime to switch off. Whether playing casual games in the expansive Augarten park, swimming in the indoor pool, picking up a book, or simply sitting back to relax, unstructured free time is a vital pillar that allows students to completely unwind.

A Shared Community: A Bond that Connects

The "Vienna Boys Choir family" thrives on strong social connections and a deep sense of belonging. Through shared lunches, collaborative projects, and everyday campus life, children learn empathy and responsibility. Older students act as role models, naturally supporting younger peers.

The Power of Music – Mind and Body in Tune

Numerous scientific studies confirm what we see every day at Campus Augarten: making music not only enhances our students’ cognitive abilities, it also boosts their emotional well-being, social skills, physical development, creativity, and resilience.

Music enhances concentration, memory, and language development. Its rhythm and structure hone logical thinking as well as mathematical abilities.

Singing builds self-confidence, offers a vital outlet for emotion, and actively reduces stress. Making music together fosters a sense of security and emotional stability.

In the choir, children learn to listen, take responsibility, and work toward a common goal. Music connects people and teaches empathy.

Singing improves respiration, posture, and body awareness. Instrumental lessons develop and refine motor skills and hand-eye coordination.

Music kindles imagination and individual expression, inspiring children to develop original ideas and find their artistic identity.

Musical learning builds determination, tenacity, and resolve. Children experience firsthand that dedication and practice lead to tangible success.
