The Vienna Girls Choir was founded in 2004 as the female counterpart to the Vienna Boys Choir. The ensemble achieved widespread international recognition in January 2023 following their historic debut alongside the boys at the Vienna Philharmonic’s New Year’s Concert. This milestone paved the way for a new chapter in September 2024, when the girl choristers —aged between 10 and 14—joined Campus Augarten full-time.
Under the direction of their Kapellmeister, Stefan Foidl, the girls follow the exact same musical curriculum as the boys: at Campus Augarten, singing, choir rehearsals, voice training, solo rehearsals, concerts, and tours are fully integrated into their daily schooling.
Due to differences in vocal development in this age group, the Vienna Boys Choir and the Vienna Girls Choir do not mix; however, on special occasions they may perform together, such as at the 2023 Vienna Philharmonic’s New Year’s Concert and the reopening of the Austrian Parliament, and at the annual Mother’s Day Concert at Vienna’s Musikverein.
The Vienna Girls Choir was awarded the Austrian Musical Theatre Prize in 2023. In 2024, both they and the Vienna Boys Choir were honoured with the European Cultural Award at the Luxembourg Philharmonic.
Following a successful debut tour across Austria, Germany, Slovenia, Italy, and Switzerland in 2025, the ensemble embarked on its first major tour of China in April 2026. Looking ahead, the choir’s global journey continues to gather momentum with their first tour of the United States scheduled for 2027.
