Primary School

The Vienna Boys Choir Primary School combines musical training with modern, supportive teaching based on the Austrian curriculum. The focus is on the holistic development of every child.

Learn, Make Music, Grow Together

The school covers years 1–4 and provides lessons and wraparound care from 08:00 to 16:00. Alongside the official curriculum, there is a strong focus on music. Small classes and diverse methods ensure each child's strengths are nurtured and their individual needs are met. If required, students receive extra tuition in small groups or in a one-to-one setting, as well as specialist help including dyslexia therapy, speech therapy, and DaZ (German as a second language) courses. Digital tools are seamlessly integrated into daily learning, including a 1:1 iPad programme in selected classes.

Community and Environment

A balanced mix of lessons and active breaks builds a strong sense of community and helps children develop their social skills. The students make full use of the expansive Augarten park, sports pitches, gym, and indoor swimming pool. Activities such as shared lunches, drama workshops, animal-assisted projects, and games in the park foster empathy and responsibility. Older children act as role models, supporting younger peers both in the classroom and during breaks.

A Day at our Primary School

Our dedicated educational team includes teachers, music instructors, vocal coaches, and tutors. Close collaboration, regular team meetings, and an open feedback culture ensure that teaching remains at the highest standard.

A key feature of the school is interaction across different age groups. Year 4 students connect with older students from the secondary school, as they begin to rehearse with the concert choirs, i.e. one of the boys' choirs or the girls' choir. This cross-age learning builds trust, guidance, and a strong sense of community.

For the Year 4 boys, boarding life is part of their weekly routine. In preparation for life as a member of the Vienna Boys Choir, they board for three nights a week under the care of our boarding staff. In this setting, they learn independence and social responsibility. Sports, games, creative activities, and supervised prep are all built into this programme.

We bring passion, energy, and creativity to the classroom; we know that education is about more than just acquiring knowledge. We prepare children for life, giving them space to grow, flourish, and learn from mistakes that happen in a safe environment where every child matters.

Our primary school operates a full-day programme from 08:00 to 16:00. The daily routine balances the standard Austrian primary school curriculum with intensive music lessons. We place great emphasis on a healthy mix of activities: alongside a shared lunch, children use our sports pitches, gym, indoor swimming pool, and the expansive Augarten park for recreation and exercise.

Music is fully integrated into the daily routine. Children have six hours of music lessons per week in Years 1 and 2, which increases to ten hours in Years 3 and 4. The training includes choral singing, music theory, ear training, rhythm work, drama, and individual singing lessons. In addition, every child learns an instrument —either on-site or with an external teacher— and gains valuable performance experience in our annual stage productions at MuTh.

We introduce boarding gradually, welcoming Year 4 boys to stay at the school three nights a week. Guided by our boarding staff, they build independence and social skills, preparing for life in the Vienna Boys Choir. Boarding is not available for girls or younger year groups (Years 1–3), who remain day students and spend evenings and weekends at home.

We tailor our teaching to each child's unique strengths and needs through:
